Things To Take Note Before Renting Car

While renting a car makes total sense in most instances, it can turn out to be a bewildering experience, especially if you were not prepared enough. A rental car helps you avoid public transportation and paying for a taxi if you want to get to a place faster and conveniently. However, there are hidden costs associated with renting a car that can land you in trouble. It is not like the message being put across here is that you should not rent a car. No one is against that, but before you rent a car, note some crucial things. Here are some of the things to take note before renting a car. Do not be caught unprepared.

1. There are many providers
We are living in a world full of competition, and car renting companies are not an exception. People are always struggling to find better deals from those offering services and goods. When it comes to renting a car, you should shop around for the best deal because there are tons of companies that offer these services. Just because the rates are unbelievably low does not make the provider the best. There are other charges such as surcharges, taxes, and other fees that you should put into consideration. Shop around until you get the best lest you regret later.

2. Some rental cars can be damaged
It is not a guarantee that because a car is up for rent, it is in good condition. Many people have paid for the damages they never caused while all they could have done is to check the car before sealing the deal. Once you get the rented car, check to see if the lights are functioning, the radio works fine, and that the car is in good condition. If you notice anything significant, you should bring it to the attention of the rental company so that they can take action. Either they repair it, give you another one, or they note somewhere that the car has some problem. As long as you have brought to their attention, they will take it up from there.

3. Kids costs more to drive rental cars
Most car rental companies consider people below twenty-one years kids. No matter how your twenty-one-year-old kid is good in driving, if you would wish them to drive a rented car, you will have to pay more. Rental companies see kids as liabilities to their property, and that is why they will always charge more if they need to drive. As a parent, if you don’t want to spend a lot of money, avoid putting kids on the driver list.

4. You’ll be charged depending on the number of drivers
Rental companies put into consideration the number of drivers who will drive the rented car and use that as a basis of charging prices. Whether you are going out with your friends or you are taking a family time out, keep the number of drivers as low as you can. It does not matter whether all people in the car are good drivers. In the end, if you are to spend less, you will need to come up with at most two people who will drive the car.

5. You’ll pay less if you rent at the company’s premises
Just from the plane? Why would you go to the rental company’s premises when you can easily rent at the airport? Well, rental cars are obligated to pay some fees at the airport where they carry out business. Unfortunately, the burden always fall on the person renting the car. If you are to get around these fees, you just have to take a cab to the rental company’s premises. Alternatively, you can rent online and present yourself physically at the premises to collect the car. You have two ways to get around these fees.

6. Always print the voucher
The advent of the internet has seen many business conduct business online. Car rental companies are not an exception. If you happen to book your rental car online, be sure to print the voucher that is usually sent to your email. Check all the reservation details and ensure that everything on the voucher is correct before printing it. Hand in the voucher at the rental company’s counter when you turn up to pick the car. This way, you will avoid being charged twice.

7. Gas up before returning
With the excitement of picking a rented car, people forget that the car has been fueled. And when it comes to returning the rented car, people forget to gas up! Either intentionally or unintentionally, it doesn’t make much difference. The car rental company will charge you for the fuel used at the rental car rates, which is usually higher. Not that you should not be excited. Just remember to gas up when returning the car up, and don’t prepay for fuel.

8. Punctuality is the key
The excitement of a rented car should not make you forget that it does not belong to you. Several other individuals may be waiting for it, and any slight delay in returning it will see you penalized. You don’t like it this way, so just get back to the renting company’s premises on time. If you cannot make to the company on time, consider calling them and explain your situation. It can help. And, if there are charges that you will pay for getting late, ask.

9. Your insurance covers you
While car rental companies may offer insurance for you to purchase, the ultimate choice rests with you. If you have your auto insurance, then you are covered in the event of an accident. Just be sure to check keenly before paying for any insurance offered by the rental car companies. Remember they are in business; they can exploit you at the slightest opportunity they get.

Car rental companies come in handy when you need to use a car for personal reasons. Whether it is a family day out you just want to avoid the inconveniences of public transport in Singapore; you need to be extra-vigilant. The above are some of the things you need to take note of when you decide to rent a car for your personal use. Remember that every decision you make counts.
